Dental Veneers
If you have been looking for a permanent way to brighten and perfect your smile, talk to our Los Angeles dentist about veneers for your teeth.
Dental veneers are custom-made shells of thin porcelain or other material that cover your teeth and improve their appearance. These shells are attached firmly to the real teeth, giving the appearance of a new tooth.
Dental veneers are often made of resin composite materials or porcelain, due to the durability of these substances. Porcelain is the material of choice, as it has a more natural appearance than many composites.
Dental veneers can be used to alter the shape and appearance of misaligned teeth. They can also cover stained or broken teeth, and can close the spaces between the teeth.
Dental veneers require several visits to the dentist to complete. At the first visit, the dentist will remove a minute layer of your tooth’s natural enamel. This is so that the veneer will cling to the tooth and will not appear too large.
Molds will then be made of the teeth to be covered with porcelain veneers. These molds allow the dental laboratory to make a perfectly-sized model veneer to cover your tooth with the right size, angle, and thickness.
Color will also be matched so that your porcelain veneers do not appear too white or too dark in your mouth, if you are having only one or a few teeth covered.
When your porcelain veneers arrive back from the laboratory, you will have to re-visit the dentist to have the veneer fitted. It may need to be shaped, or the color adjusted with a choice of cement to attach it to your tooth. The veneer is then attached and a special light used to harden the cement quickly.
You will probably have to visit the dentist once more in a few weeks after your porcelain veneers are placed, simply to check for fit, color, and comfort.
Our Los Angeles cosmetic dentist will be happy to talk to you about veneers, and any other cosmetic procedures available to help you have the very best smile.
